It’s Official, We Aren’t Ready
Jim McKay wrote an article yesterday that takes a look at the effectiveness of the current disaster readiness message in the United States. Apparently, the vast majority of US citizens do not even have the most basic preparations for dealing with emergencies and many of the ones who think they are ready for disasters are also rather unprepared: “Americans have a false sense of security when it comes to disasters, and should they become victims, most haven’t taken steps to help themselves during the first few days after one strikes. Experts say either the preparedness message isn’t getting across, or the wrong message is being sent. “
