Ruger has issued a recall for all new model 22/45 and MkIV pistols made before June of this year. According to the company the specific problem is relates to incorrect manipulation of the manual safety: “… if the trigger is pulled while the safety lever is midway between the “safe” and “fire” positions (that is, the safety is not fully engaged or fully disengaged), then the pistol may not fire when the trigger is pulled. However, if the trigger is released and the safety lever is then moved from the mid position to the “fire” position, the pistol may fire at that time.” Ruger has set up a page on their website where owners can check their serial numbers to see if they are affected by the recall and guns sent in for repair will be returned with an extra magazine for the trouble.
